Merging for Dummies
Merging onto a major roadway is a simple task, maintain speed and enter the road with traffic. MN TBR 387 seems to think it means STOP ON THE EFFIN ONRAMP.
No, its called the ‘Zipper’ method, try it.

The 52 interchange is /not/ an expressway to bypass traffic to get past 494 gridlock between 52 and Concord!
Medians are not meant to be crossed, this means you, Mrs. Escalade on the phone drinking a frappuchino.
Mainly consisting of Wisconsin drivers, this is the bane of my afternoon commute, wait like the rest of us, you d-bags!

Us monnesotans are quickly snealing up on you by evidence of convertible fever.
Signs are driving convertibles when its 49 degrees out, drivers are typically wearing some snooty fleece pulliver or zip-up from Nautica or Polo.
And yes, I’m one of them!
Summer, beware!

On this lovely snowy day this douchebag decides to jump the median barrier and come within an inch or two of my front end trying to but in front of me.
Seeing I really have to get home and take a leak I wasn’t about to let him hit me, but stay away from this ricer.
He did however have the decency to greet me with a few middle fingers which I promptly returned.
Drivers, Beware!

Here in the good old Twin Cities, we’ve had a fresh dusting of snow every other day for the better part of the last week, just enough to make the commute to and from the office a living nightmare. Last night, I ventured out in the wonderful weather to Stillwater. I had gone out around home earlier in the day, and found the roads rather fun.. I use the word ‘fun’ because I would be one of those SUV driving fools who thinks it’s fun to slide around corners, and use the back end of the Home Depot parking lot for drifting practice.
I did my local errands, auto store, Target, Cub, liquor store too of course, and noted that people were certainly out and getting around, plows were out, and driveways were being shoveled. By the time I packed up to head to Stillwater, it was getting dark, chilly and the winds were picking up.
I started my drive from Cottage Grove, up Hwy 61, where traffic was moving at about 35mph, not too bad, but noticed once I got up to St. Paul Park, the right lane was not plowed, and not slick, like the other two lanes were, so I decided to hop in that lane and motor up to 494. Traffic on 494 was running about 40mph, and I was amazed to see people putting a big space between them and the car ahead of them. There is always that one weenie who darts in and out of traffic, and sadly I didn’t see him in the ditch.
I did spot one car buried in the median along with the little pickup in the photo above, who had just spun out. I continued my run out to Stillwater, to find all traffic was behaving well, and moving about 40mph. Not too bad considering the snow and blowing snow. I made it out to my destination, of course having a little fun on the dirt roads and drifting a bit in the snow, but would say while not great, all the roads I was traveling on were certainly passable by any car, with the exception of the dirt roads I was on. Otherwise, it was just slow going, but certainly drivable.
If this would have been a 8am Monday rush hour, I would have said shut it all down, stay home, but I had plans to keep, and wasn’t going to be deterred by a little snow.
The cold on the other hand, today, was enough to royally upset my truck, who is normally kept in a heated garage. After about 10 minutes of total cranking, a round with the 50amp boost charger, and some praying, the Explorer fired up and once I let her warm up a bit, took a spin around the neighborhood to get everything thawed out.
Take care on the roads, and I hope you have a safe and happy Holiday week.
Ok fine, jerk.. He then proceeds to cut me off a mile later, with no blinker or anything, almost clipping a semi trailer in the process.
Drivers, Beware…

Nothing says Welcome to Minnesota Winters like sitting on a major roadway, that typically travels about 80, currently going 12mph.
Seeing cars skitter left and right dancing on the icy roadways and running over discarded bumper crumblings from earlier accidents.
Have any of you had any mishaps this season yet? I find myself giving more space to the person ahead of me, but still like to do a little drifting in the vacant parking lots.
Drive safe, and send in your stories!

Driving home tonight from a seminar, thru White Bear on Hwy 96 was this wonderful driver who decided to tailgate me, exchanged a gesticular pleasantry when passing me, not using his blinkers while changing lanes and crossing thru a few clearly red light.
Look out for a 2008 or so tan Ford F-150.

Really, how difficult is it to miss a giant yellow land-whale?
Spotted this on my commute up Hwy 61NB near 70th.
Sure, it is Monday, and while there may have been a little ice in the side roads, the main lines are plenty good. I write this as I sit with my car in Park while trying to get on 494.
The white stuff that will start falling soon is no reason for us to drive like complete idiots, really. If you’ve lived here for more than 18 months, you’ve experienced all MN has to offer for weather, so adapt or leave!
Back to the point, if you pass a white mid 90’s blazer with a banged up front passenger side, watch your mirrors, appearantly they don’t know the corners of their vehicle.

A pretty uneventful Thursday commute down 94 headed home.
Maybe we’ll have more to report on Friday on the Bloomington commute.
